New Delhi: Indian midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad has reached the milestone of 200 senior international appearances for India. The 26-year-old achieved the feat when he took the field against South Korea in the men’s hockey competition at the Asian Games.
Prasad made his senior international debut for India in 2018 and has since established himself as an important member of the national midfield. He has been part of India’s bronze-medal winning teams at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as the gold-medal winning squad at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
He also contributed to India’s silver-medal campaigns at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, besides being part of the team that won silver at the 2018 Champions Trophy in Breda, the final edition of the tournament.
Prasad, who received the Arjuna Award in 2021, was presented with a special saffron India jersey by chief coach Craig Fulton after completing his 200th appearance.
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey congratulated Prasad, describing the milestone as a reflection of his consistency, commitment and dedication to Indian hockey. Secretary General Bholanath Singh also hailed the achievement as a proud moment for Indian hockey, attributing Prasad’s journey to hard work and discipline.
